Hello

(I'm sorry I write in english but my german is not so good)

I'am an amateur historian and collector from the Czech Republic and last week I was in the Carpathian Mountains (East of Slovakia). During my search with metal detector in WWI and WWII battlefield I found german ID Tags. I was happy because it's very interesting item what can bring some infomations about unit which fought there as you know. But in the same place - when I was digging next thing (a button) - I found some bones. I'm sure the whole ID Tags belong to the MIA soldier. I would like to help to bring back a name to that soldier.

Please note - I'm NOT a reseller such as I'm NOT a ghoul!

I can offer GPS position with a sketch and rewriting of the ID Tags.

I did not contact somebody (Police, etc.) because I heard about many deceivers who called themselves like reliable co-workers. It's my first find of a remains and I would like to help with one unknown destiny and know identity of the man.

What can I do now? Should I write to the WASt?

At first : Please remove the cross immediately !!

It is very important,that there is no cross. It is too striking. When you are digging there, than there may be other diggers, too !

It is better,when you mark this grave with a stone,or something like that.

You said, you have the gps position ?? Then would it be no problem, to find it again.

I'm back in the Czech Republic so I can't go there again and remove it. But I can entrust my friend in Slovakia with that.

All metal things were removed out just for this reason (ID Tags, an aluminium tube and two buttons). So I hope nobody will dig there again.

GPS position is not too precise. There can be a deviation (sometimes about 30 meters).

Do you know wich ID-tag belongs to the bones? If you have found more then one ID-tag, it's not anymore easy to see which ID-tags belongs to which soldier.

When i was looking for info about WW2 in my region (north Slovakia), I met one interesting man. He told me that, his brother after war in march 1945 buried german soldier. It was very riskantly because soviet army prohibit to burr german soldier. But that place was far away from populated area, then he buried him. He donÂ´t know who is it, because he did not any documents, any ID, nothing except german uniform. How can identify that man?

Yes, he describe me in detail a place, which is marked by iron cross, they (he and his brother) made this cross. It was 2 years ago, and I must go there and confirm it.
Unfotunatelly they donÂ´t know when he died, because on this place was wageing fight from end of january to end of march. And he was founded in the end of march. :-(
Btw I have still problems with clubs of military history, which is robbing this graves.

On cemetery in Slovakia, village with name Chlebnice I found a grave of unknown german soldier, which have been burried in 3.april 1945.

KOHLBE FRIDRICH
In archive I found that soldier is:
Feldwebel Kohlbe Fridrich
Maybe this information help somebody?

Friedrich Kohlbe (a very uncommon name, rather it was Kolbe?) unfortunately is not to find on http://www.volksbund.de/graebersuche.html.

On this Chlebnice site, there's to find the following note: "During Easter holiday the front approached and on April the 3rd, 1945 the Russian troops were already in the village where they killed in the field one solder who had surrendered".

Might this murdered soldier have been Friedrich Kolbe?

In book about history of village Chlebnice is written, than some of surrended german soldiers was killed by Red army on border cadastral area village Pribis and Chlebnice. But in archive is written only about Kohlbe. You are right maybe it is Kolbe. In Slovak katalogue of Departament of Interrior is Otto Kolbe, where is true I donÂ´t know.
In archive I found, who take all documents of this man. But if this man is living yet and where are this documents now, I donÂ´t know.

is it possible to show us the document, e.g. as .pdf or .jpeg (inclusive the archive signature and the exactly name of the archive) and if possible the (complete) translation of it? This is important for further research in the german facilities, like WASt, Volksbund or DRK.

With the original document it is easily to get further information. You can upload the picture or pdf below at "DateianhÃ¤nge" (max. 10 appendixes (I think 1 should be enough Augenzwinkern

) at a maximum size 791 kb.
I think that should no problem for you.

this information is one of many which I have, because I am looking for information about exhumation of Red armyÂ´s soldiers in my area in 1946. I check year 1945-1950 in archive, and I want to continue to present date.
But main information about this soldier it was not in archive, reason is described in translation of this document.
By the way, katalog which I bethink below is in my opinion of is very shoddy.

Subject: Effectuation of lists all soldiers fallen in WW2 on cantonÂ´s area

Advisory of MNV in Chlebnice, on the base of your request from 16th june 1985 sign. MH 4524/1958,
we notify to you, that in village Chlebnice, during WW2, fallen a soldier of german nationality,
accord to report his name is unknown to us, but his document, which was olaced on MNV, was taken by
ex-neighbourhood secretary Michal LiÅ¡ka from Veli
na, we claim that branch ol local economy, that this
documents was found and accurately determined his name.
Accord to report his name was: Feldv. Kohlbe Fridrich.
Next sentence is about fallen russian Ivan.

If you want I can help you with fallen german soldiers, I have some sketch of german grave. This sketch are from report of corps of national security from 1945-1950. But I donÂ´t know these this soldiers was exhumated about year 1994.

on military exchange I was found ID tag. From its owner I learned that he found this ID tag somewhere between Zvolen (Altsohl) and ModrÃ½ KameH (Slovakia), from destroyed pill-box. When I told him, that he is thief our conservation was finished. So I don't know that it is real ID tags or fake. Pleas tell me if is it original or not, and I will try to find out place of dead.
I was wrote to WAST but without answer.
