  Hospital 5849

Hallo.
My grandfather SS strm. Leif Hauff Kristiansen was a Norwegian SS Volunteer during the 2ww and served in "Den Norske Legion 3.komp" around Leningrad and later in the"14.SS-Pz.Gr.Rgt 23 NORGE."
In may 1945 he was fighting in Berlin, and the 5.may he was taken as war-prisoner by the Russians. From the Russian map RGVA: *Delo U3- 1993111 we can read that he died in Hospital 5849 in juli 1945 of dystrofi.
We have found out that hospital 5849 was in Brest Litowsk in Belarus, - can anybody confirm this?
Sinse my grandfather was a SS soldier the Russians used to take them direktly to Gulag-camps farther into Russia, - but maybee my grandfather was vounded and become too seek and was left in the hospital in Brest and died there after a month. Any who has same idea about this?

This summer my parents and I visited Brest for find out more about this hospital, and maybee find the place he was buryed. But it was very difficult to locate the place. We did not find the hospital. but we find a area outside the town with a lot of unmarked graves. Some of the graves were opened, and the area was in a forest. The local people told us this was used for german soldiers who died in the early days of 2WW in fights around the Brest fortress. And later (after the war) used for people from the "arbaitslager Frankfurter, Kubriker und Lager Babinka" Also dead people from the war-hospital was berried here. We have the GPS koordinates of this place. Now-days the Belarus people are building houses above the graves.., that is a pity!
I there anybody who know more about german soldier cemetery in Brest from the year 1945 - 1946. Were do the Russians put the dead german soldiers.?

Die Zustände waren bis Mitte 46 katastrophal, insbesondere im Hospital. Es fehlten Fenster und Böden, die Kranken lagen ohne Decken auf der Erde. Medikamente und Verbandsmaterial gab es kaum. In den Wintermonaten starben tägl. 50 bis 100 Gefangene, insges. bis zur Auflösung der Lager im August 53 rd. 20 000, darunter zahlr. Zivilinternierte.

mein Großvater ist am 28.07.1947 auch im Hospital 5849 in Brest verstorben. Hast Du eine genaue Adresse für Boltzmann aus Österreich ?

Woher hast Du den die Angabe das Dein Opa in dem Lager verstarb?

Hast Du bereits die Gefangenenakte von ihm vorliegen?

Hallo. We have now got a copy of the "gefangen-act" for my grandfather, (the Norwegian SS soldier) from the www.suchreferat-moskau.de
In the act there was a detaljed map over the cemetery from the actual hospital in Brest. But there was not any word about where the hospital was located. I suppose it was close to the cemetery. The cemetery is now in a "living area" in the new part of the city. Nothing to see there today else than houses. It contents of 40 common-graves in a field of 150 x 25 m.

My grandfather was actually on his way to bee realised and was on his way back home from a russian war-camp close to Moscow. On the transport back to germany ? he got seek and was taken out from the transport and brought to the hospital. He died there in des 1945. If he only managed to stay alive for some more days he would be a free man.....

Hallo Tobias,
ich habe einen Brief von einem Mitgefangenen, der dort als Sanitäter gearbeitet hat. Er hat 1951 an meine Oma geschrieben, daß ihr Mann am 29.07.1947 dort an Wasser verstorben war.

Heute nun habe ich die Krankenakte in russisch vom DRK erhalten. Ein Nachbarin ist Russin und sie wird sie mir übersetzen. Nun weiß ich, wo mein Großvater beerdigt wurde. Von Franck aus Norwegen bekomme ich noch eine Karte vom Friedhof.
Mein Großvater war in Moskau in Kriegsgefangenschaft, obwohl er nicht beim Militär war. In Marienwerder war er als Hilfpolizist zum Regeln des Flüchtingsverkehrs eingesetzt. Dabei haben die Russen ihn einkassiert. Aus dem Kriegsgefangenlager habe ich noch ein Karte, die er an meine Großmutter geschrieben hat.
Leider ist der Hilfsverein in Moskau sehr teuer. Sie wollen für Ihre Sucharbeit 200 Euro haben.

den "Hilfsverein" empfehle ich Dir auch nicht!!! Zudem Du jetzt die Akte vom DRK hast- mehr machen die auch nicht!

Ich denke die Übersetzung wird dann auch das ein oder andere klären!

Mein Großvater ist am 07.10.1949 im Hospital 5849 verstorben und wurde auf dem Hospitalfriedhof begraben.
Wer kennt Leute / Angehörige die auch Infos von dieser Zeit haben ?

Wer hat Infos aus dieser Zeit, evtl. Briefe etc.?
