Hallo Markus
Zitat: |
Der Preis ist auch ziemlich happig. |

[...]
Todes-/Vermisstendatum: 15.01.1945
Todes-/Vermisstenort: Konski Galizien[/I]
Es gibt verschiedene Ortschaften/Städte KONSKI. Vermutlich könnte es heute das hier sein:
KoDskie, Powiat Konecki, Woiwodschaft Heiligkreuz, Polen |
Moin zusammen,

Markus

Hello,
Lord, your maps are quite detailed. Some remarks:
- At 16-17.1 they moved with the whole division north of Brzanka hill, through Jodlowa - Ryglice - Dabrówka Tuchowska. Exactly the drawn way moved the soviet 140th rifle division. That's why 78.VSD had to open the way attacking Gromnik from the northeast.
- In fact, they never were 7 km south of Dobczyce, just 4 kms. Generally, their Sperrstellung was only 1-4 kms southeast of Dobczyce - Gdów line.
A retreat from Dobczyce for the most of the division, incl. St.R.14, was not conducted via Myslenice, as the soviets captured the essential crossing. I know it well, I live 15 kms from this crossing
It was 21.1.45. Counterattacks failed. Col. Gebhardt's combat group was assigned as rear guard, while the rest of the division, loosing many vehicles, waded to the Siepraw area (west of Dobczyce and north od Myslenice, you have a bed signature here), and to Jawornik (a signature of road 955 northwest of Myslenice). They reached Jawornik at 22.1, while Gebhardt's group kept Siepraw until 23.1 morning.
Please note that the Polish names are often with typos/mistakes in German documents. Surely, it was NOT Konskie. You must consider any pretty similiar name (find some detailed maps here: www.mapywig.org), like Konczyska, 2 kms southeast of Zakliczyn at Dunajec river. Yes, St.R.14 was in Zakliczyn area, Tress mentiones it as Dunajec line.
Best,
Piotr

Hello Piotr,
many thanks for your tread.
The maps I made only based on assumptions. I know they are unfortunately not quite correct.
I think you mean Konczyska on route 980. I am sure?
Your tread is to the effect interesting because Dr. Rudolf and I tried to find Konski/Galizien
like mentioned on Volksbund. We found 2 villages with name Konski but both are to far away.
I am very greatful because this localizes the search very much. Should I ask Zakliczyn or Konczyska municipal administration whether finds soldiers of WW2 in the past? What do you mean?
Regarding Sperrstellung: You mean it was near of Czaslaw? With front to south?
Regarding retreat via Myslenice. I think you mean the crossing routes 967/964 which is in northwest of Dobczyce or which one do you mean?
Do you have more information about Oberst/Colonel Gebhardt and his group?
Best regards from Germany
Markus

Hello,
Yes, exactly these village Konczyska at route 980.
Village Konskie (Galizien) was in soviet handssince late summer 1944, while the town Konskie is not in Galizien
Simply I searched for any similiar name. What did they have, beginning with K, at they retreat to Wadowice? Kolaczyce, possibly Klecie, Kowalowy, Konczyska, Krolowka, Kobylec, possibly Komorniki, Krzyszkowice, Kalwaria and Klecza. Of course, it could be any small settlement, but I don't think so - it should be a name existing on their maps (1:100000 scale).
You can write to Zakliczyn administration, but I'm almost sure they will have nothing interesting. They are not doing the archival research
About the archives: in 1945, there were in Zakliczyn area:
2 or 8 German soldiers buried at Zakliczyn cemetery
2 German soldiers buried at Zakliczyn (valley)
3 German soldiers buried at Zdonia
4 German soldiers buried in another common grave at Zdonia
14 German soldiers buried at the mass grave at Slona
2 German soldiers buried at Luslawice
Details are not known.
Sperstellung at Dobczyce (20/21.1.1945):
see this map http://www.mapywig.org/m/WIG100_300DPI/P...CZKA_300dpi.jpg
1st defense line: a company (?) in single, simple trenches with MGs - point 292 south of Czaslaw, with front to the south and east; retreated in the nigth 20/21.1.
2nd defense line: a company (?) with one Pak in full-profile trenches of IVb-Stellung (not completed), at Marwin, north of Czaslaw, broken 21.1 morning
rear defense: some gropus of soldiers inside Dobczyce town, mostly with MGs and mortar company at the heigth Stroznica and Zamkowa, just between the name "Garb." and the southwestern church signature at Dobczyce; another group at the market square (possibly with one Pak, surely with Ofenrohrs), broken 21.1 afternoon
That's all. A similiar defense was set at another main road at Gdow.
Col. Gebhatdt's group: I don't have many details; it consisted mostly of St.R.195 infantry, with several Stug IIIs and the support of weak artillery, situated northwest of Dobczyce. They lost most of heavy equipment here.
I have one question for you all:
Is it possible to get an excerpt from namentliche Verlustlisten somewhere? I mean: exact unit, date and place of death, for the certain period.
Best,
Piotr

Hello Piotr,
it would be sad if you were right with your statement that they don't make any archival research.
Do you have access to the archiv, or wherefrom is your information about this soldiers?
If these 4 or maybe 10 buried soldiers near Zakliczyn are unregistred we have the possibility here of clearing 10 destinies.
We should ask the specialists here which of your listed, buried soldiers are known. Do you agree?
Best regards
Markus

Hello Markus,
I know how the local administration works - for them is easier to write "we don't know nothing" than to search deeper. Simply, they don't have people to send them to the archives. The best way thay could do, is to contact you with any local history enthusiast. If he/she has time and will be interested in WW2 period, yes, he/she surely will help you.
The list is exactly from our State Archives in Cracow, Dept. IV (modern history). They have all war grave registers made in 1945-50. But note, that these official registers doesn't give full information - especially for German war graves - it depended on the competences of person, who was doing the list in certain town or village. The registers gathered in Cracow are concerning Malopolskie - former Krakowskie Voivodeship (Land). Once I wrote about it in my poor German at the forum.
I have notices from all registers from southern part of this area, the information above is from there.
You can ask somebody to search, if there's somebody buried in Zakliczyn in German registers. But note, that "Todesort" not always equals the place, where the grave is located.
I needed information about something more - the elements of operational knowledge - to which unit/regiment/bataillon belonged the soldiers fallen in certain place, for example, Mszana Dolna, Pcim, Sulkowice or Jordanow (and many more).
Russians did the perfect thing several years ago - they published all their "Verlustlisten", so working with them I can precisely say (for ca. 80%), where the certain soldier is buried at present. In Germany, the lists are still not public domain...

Hello Piotr,
your German can not be worse as my English
.
The only informations which I have about Hyronimus can you read here into the forum.
The "German Red Cross" gaves only general informations about retreat of St.Reg.14 and informtion that my uncle was missing in the area of Tarnow -Lipnica between January 15th and 22th.
I heard about Konski for the first time by Dr. Rudolf.
Another informaton I got here in the forum was that uncle Hironymus was in "Regimentstab" of the St.Reg 14.
I am not sure if I understand you right. You think the Russians published the lists of your own missing soldiers or do you mean the list of registred German missing soldiers?
Best regards
Markus
